Saturday (August 5)

  • Very heavy rainfall is possible in isolated places of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, East Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
  • Heavy rainfall may lash isolated places of Mizoram, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
  • Widespread rain and thunderstorms could impact Konkan-Goa and Coastal Karnataka.
  • Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms may occur over Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha.
  • Maximum temperatures are likely to be above 40°C in isolated places of Tamil Nadu.
  • Dense fog is possible in isolated places of North India early in the morning.

Sunday (August 6)

  • Very heavy rainfall is possible in isolated places of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Bihar, and East Uttar Pradesh.
  • Heavy rainfall may occur over isolated places of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
  • Widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Konkan-Goa, and Coastal Karnataka.
  • Fairly widespread rain and thunderstorms may batter Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, West Uttar Pradesh, and East Madhya Pradesh.
  • Maximum temperatures above 40°C are expected in isolated places of West Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
  • Dense fog is possible in isolated places of North India early in the morning.

5-day nationwide forecast

The monsoon trough is currently stretching across Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and north Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand. It is likely to shift gradually northwards towards the foothills of the Himalayas during next the next three days.

A low-pressure area over northeast Madhya Pradesh is likely to become obscured for the next few days.

Due to these weather systems, widespread rain with thunderstorms and isolated heavy rainfall (≧64.5mm/day) are likely over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on August 5-6, East Rajasthan and Jammu on August 5, Madhya Pradesh on August 5, and Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur during the next five days. Very heavy rainfall (≧115.6mm/day) is also possible in isolated places of Uttarakhand on August 5, East Uttar Pradesh from August 5-7, and Bihar on August 5-6.

Moist westerly flows from the Arabian Sea should continue to produce intermittent rain over the Konkan coast for at least the next five days, including Mumbai city.

Maximum temperatures above 40°C are forecast in isolated places of Tamil Nadu on Saturday and Sunday, West Rajasthan on Sunday.

Overnight minimums are expected to be slightly below-normal in the Northwest of the country, which may contribute to generating fog early in the morning.
